Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large firm tart apples (like Granny Smith)
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 box premade refrigerated pie crusts (2 count)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (cut into small cubes)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin pieces.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Toss the apple slices in this mixture until well coated.
  4. Roll out one pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish and fill it with the apple mixture. Dot with butter.
  5. Cover with the second crust, crimping edges to seal. Cut slits in the top crust for steam escape.
  6. Bake for 10 minutes at 450°F; then reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 50 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  7. Cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing.
