  • 2 pounds russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup milk or cream
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground lamb
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 medium carrots, diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 cup frozen corn
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 1 cup beef or chicken stock
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil the potatoes in salted water until tender (15–20 minutes). Drain and mash with butter and milk or cream until creamy.
  2. In a skillet, sauté onions in olive oil for about 5 minutes, then add minced garlic for an additional minute.
  3. Add ground meat to the skillet and brown for 6–8 minutes. Stir in carrots, peas, corn, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, thyme, and paprika.
  4. Pour in stock and simmer for about 10 minutes until thickened. Let cool slightly.
  5. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and layer the meat mixture in a baking dish. Spread mashed potatoes on top.
  6. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
