Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (for filling)
  • 3 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tbsp chopped fresh herbs (thyme, parsley, or rosemary)
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining warm milk, sugar, and yeast in a bowl. Allow it to sit for about 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix in eggs, softened butter, flour, and salt. Knead until smooth and elastic for about 5-10 minutes. Let rise for an hour until doubled in size.
  3. For the filling, melt butter in a pan over medium heat. Sauté garlic until fragrant (about 2 minutes), then stir in chopped herbs and set aside.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread garlic herb butter evenly on top. Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  5. Roll tightly into a log, slice lengthwise down the middle, and twist both halves together.
  6. Place in a greased pan to rise again for 30-40 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush with egg wash and bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown.
