  • 5 medium apples
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 1 and ½ cups salted butter
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp salted butter (for caramel)
  • ½ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13 pan with nonstick spray and parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, combine sliced apples with lemon juice, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and spices; set aside.
  3. In another bowl, melt butter and mix in remaining crust ingredients until crumbly.
  4. Press most of the mixture into the pan, layer on the apple filling, then sprinkle reserved crust on top.
  5. Bake for 38 to 45 minutes until golden brown.
  6. While baking, prepare salted caramel by melting sugar until golden, then whisk in butter and cream; add salt.
  7. After cooling bars for one hour, slice and drizzle with caramel before serving.
