  • 1 lb smoked turkey sausage, sliced
  • 1.5 cups uncooked long grain rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2.5 cups chicken broth
  • 0.5 cup barbecue sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: chopped green onions or parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the sausage slices until browned; remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add more oil if needed, and sauté the chopped onion for about five minutes until translucent.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add uncooked rice to the skillet and toast for 2–3 minutes.
  5. Pour in chicken broth and barbecue sauce; scrape any bits off the bottom of the pan.
  6. Return sausage to the pan, bring to a simmer, cover, and reduce heat to low. Cook for about 18–20 minutes.
  7. Turn off heat and let sit covered for an additional five minutes before fluffing with a fork.
