  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme (or 1 tablespoon fresh thyme)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • For the topping: 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon spicy brown mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, soak panko bread crumbs in milk until well mixed.
  3. Sauté diced onions in butter until fragrant, then add minced garlic.
  4. In a large bowl, combine soaked bread crumbs with ground beef, egg, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and cooled onion-garlic mixture; mix gently.
  5. Shape into a loaf on the baking sheet and cut a crisscross pattern on top.
  6. Bake for about 40 minutes; mix ketchup, mustard, and brown sugar for the topping. Spread over the meatloaf and bake until internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C), about an additional 30-35 minutes.
