  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • For Glaze: ½ cup unsalted butter,
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla bean paste
  • 12 tbsp milk (for thinning, as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  4. Alternate adding the flour mixture and buttermilk to the butter mixture until just combined.
  5. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 22–25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool completely.
  6. For the glaze, melt butter in a saucepan until golden brown. Whisk in powdered sugar, maple syrup, and vanilla bean paste until smooth; add milk if needed for thinning.
  7. Pour the glaze over cooled bars and allow to set before slicing.
