Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 3/4 cup warm milk
  • 2 tsp dry active yeast
  • 1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 5 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (for glaze)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (for glaze)
  • 3 Tbsp milk (for glaze)
  • 1 Tbsp corn syrup (for glaze)
  • 2 tsp maple extract (for glaze)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and milk; sprinkle in the yeast and let it sit for about five minutes until frothy.
  2. Whisk in granulated sugar, salt, and eggs until well combined.
  3. Melt half a cup of butter; mix into the egg mixture. Gradually add flour while stirring to form a dough.
  4. Knead on a floured surface until smooth; place in an oiled bowl to rise for about one hour until doubled in size.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about half an inch thick; cut into bars and place on parchment-lined sheets.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) while allowing the shaped bars to rise again for about 30 minutes. Bake for approximately 20 minutes until golden brown.
  7. For the glaze, melt butter with brown sugar, milk, corn syrup, and maple extract over medium heat until smooth; stir in powdered sugar until creamy.
  8. Dip each warm donut bar into the glaze or drizzle it generously over top before serving.
