Ingredients

Scale
  • 12 cups stale white bread cubes
  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tbsp butter (divided)
  • 1 large yellow or white onion (chopped)
  • 2 cups celery (chopped)
  • 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp marjoram
  • 3 tbsp fresh sage (chopped)
  • 1/3 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Bread: Cut stale bread into 1-inch cubes. If using fresh bread, let it sit out overnight to dry.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: In a skillet, melt ½ cup butter over medium heat. Add chopped onions and celery, cooking until soft, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix bread cubes, sautéed vegetables, salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, marjoram, sage, parsley, beaten eggs, and chicken broth until well combined.
  4. Bake: Transfer mixture to a greased baking dish. Dot with remaining butter. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for about 50 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. Serve: Let cool slightly before serving alongside roasted turkey or as a standalone dish.
