Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound lean ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 large yellow onion (diced)
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium beef broth
  • 1 (8 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 8 oz small pasta shells
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Remove meat but leave about two tablespoons of grease in the pan.
  2. Lower heat to medium and add diced onion; cook until soft (about 5 minutes). Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional 30 seconds.
  3. Stir in flour for about one minute. Gradually add beef broth while stirring constantly until boiling.
  4. Mix in tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, pasta, and seasonings; bring to a simmer and cover until pasta is tender (about 12-15 minutes).
  5. Stir in cream and cheese until melted. Return the browned beef to the pan and let warm through before serving.
