Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds beef short ribs
  • 1 cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup rice vinegar
  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon chili paste (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • Chopped green onions for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Rinse and dry the beef short ribs to remove excess moisture.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, minced ginger, garlic, sesame oil, chili paste (if using), and black pepper.
  3. Place the short ribs in a resealable bag or bowl and pour the marinade over them. Seal tightly and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for maximum flavor.
  4. Preheat your oven to 325°F (160°C).
  5. Sear each side of the marinated ribs in a skillet over medium-high heat until browned (about 3-4 minutes per side).
  6. Transfer seared ribs to a roasting pan and pour any remaining marinade on top.
  7. Cover with foil and roast for about 3-4 hours until fork-tender.
  8. In the last 30 minutes of cooking, remove the foil to allow caramelization.
  9. Let the ribs rest for about 10-15 minutes before slicing; top with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
